A potty training schedule that works by the end of the week

Timing, the same door, the same spot, and what to do about the accident you did not see.

A puppy on a leash standing on a small patch of grass by a back door

Puppies do not learn where to go. They learn where going gets rewarded. The schedule does the teaching.

The timing

Out after waking, after eating, after play, and every hour otherwise at eight weeks. Add fifteen minutes to the interval each week the puppy stays dry.

The spot

Same door, same route, same patch. Stand still and be boring until the puppy goes, then pay with a treat right there, not back inside.

Accidents

Clean with an enzyme cleaner so the smell is gone to the dog, not just to you. Never punish after the fact. The puppy cannot connect it.
